Soweto, 15 October 2014 – Fixin Diaries in association with Puma South Africa and Red Bull Mobile is hosting the very first Alley Cat race in Soweto.
Sunday 19 October will bring what’s deemed the Amazing Race on bicycles, as over 50 riders will explore the eclectic streets of Soweto while vying for the top prize.
Riders will have to complete a number of tasks at various checkpoints. They will receive ‘spoke cards’ instead of race numbers, which will have a map of Soweto pointing to the vicinities of the checkpoints. The rider to cross the finish line first and complete the most tasks wins. Winner takes all! Prizes include hampers from Puma South Africa, Red Bull Mobile, Hunter Cycling and, of course, Fixin Diaries.
Alley Cat is concept that started as an informal bike race in cities, originally organized by bike messengers on fixed gear bicycles. The first Alley Cat race was in Toronto 25 years ago, and Fixin Diaries has finally brought it to Soweto.
Riders need to arrive at the Fixin Diaries workshop at 475 Bokhunku Street, Pimville Zone 7, Soweto between 08:00AM and 09:30AM to sign up, sign in and pay the R50 entry fee. Race starts promptly at 10:00AM.
Non-riders are also welcome to support. There’ll be entertainment and refreshments available throughout the day at the Workshop.
